Songwriting Charity @ Midem 2013
From SongwritingCharity:
Why Midem? I'm attending Midem for the first time in 2013 to raise awareness of the work of Nathan Timothy Foundation - The Songwriting Charity. I'm looking forward to finding business partners to sponsor our unique and innovative songwriting programmes in the UK throughout 2013/2014. I am also looking to develop global links for projects in 2014 and beyond. If you'd like to schedule a meeting with me please contact nathan@songwritingcharity.org in the first instance. Thank you.
What does The Songwriting Charity do? The charity uses the art and craft of songwriting to communicate key messages to children between the ages of 6-16. Children's emotional health and wellbeing is at the heart of all our projects/workshops. We deliver workshops that tackle issues such as Healthy Eating(Soul Food), the Environment (Funky Junk), the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle (Sports Tracks), Transition between Primary and Secondary School (Key Change), World Peace (Master Peace) and Bullying (Bully Beat). The focus is always on the process of writing, crafting and producing the song. We work with children of all abilities using a variety of high-tech engagement tools.
Children that take part in our workshops grow in confidence, self-esteem, knowledge and understanding of the process of songwriting, are inspired, feel empowered and proud to share their songs. Children also develop an appreciation for the value of the songs they and their peers have written. This is of particular relevance to our industry and we try to stem the tide of illegal download of digital media.
One Song, One Day
All of our one-day workshops are unique, presenting children with opportunities to sing, write lyrics, perform and record their ideas both individually and as a team - evaluating their progress and actively supporting the progress of their friends every step of the way. Recorded material is then available free for children to download from our website (via Soundcloud) and schools can use the songs for presentations, assemblies, special events or for use out in the wider community. When appropriate, we film the whole songwriting process in HD for use on our You Tube Channel and the school's own website.
What have we achieved in our first year?
We have touched the lives of 72,000 children and young people and worked with over 7,200 face to face. We have helped to create 241 brand new musical works (songs) generating 56,000 streams on Soundcloud.
We have created 49 promotional videos generating 29,000 video views on You Tube. We have 180 school partners.
